Ochre Heart
Find the source of the infection to free the caverns from its grasp. But beware -- you may need its power to defeat the corrupted creatures that stand in your way.
--
Save the caverns
Ever since the Ochre Sap appeared, things have been falling apart. The Custodians no longer keep their domains, corrupted into inaction or violence.
Only one Custodian remains unmarred. You. Make your way to the source of the infection and destroy it.
Explore the domains
Travel through the domains crumbling under the Ochre Sap, and discover ways to get stronger, whatever the cost.

Notes:
- Gamepad and keyboard supported; controls shown in-game
- The game saves your progress when you rest at statues; so if you softlock yourself somewhere we forgot to block off, you can quit and load in again (from the pause menu [Esc]) and it should respawn you at the last statue you rested at.
- There are 7 hearts to find, some more hidden than others. But you don't need all of them to beat the game; collect a handful for progressing, and the rest if you'd like to explore and discover.
Known issues:
- For some people, releasing the analog stick on the gamepad while moving will flip the platypus in the other direction. If that's happening to you and it bothers you too much, there's a Windows build (named "(Deadzone)") that has a much larger deadzone, which seems to solve the problem.

Great job on this game! I was really impressed with how complete this game is: a very large map to explore, great upgrades, well-designed leaf and water world mechanics, an intuitive map, and even two boss battles. I've done MVMs in the past so I have a sense of how hard it would be to fit all that in and make it work smoothly within the time limit, which you did -- nice work! I collected 9 hearts, played to the end, and had fun.
I had a few small bumps in the road that seemed unintended, happy to share further if you like (may include spoilers of a kind). Again, very fun and impressive game!Hey HinmanLantern, thank you for playing - we really appreciate the feedback! It was definitely a labor and we were a little worse for wear at the end, but we're stoked that it paid off haha. We're always looking to improve, so we're totally open to hearing about your bumps in the road if you feel like sharing.
Yes, I'm sure it was a ton of work, nice job! My first bump was on the cat boss: I was in the process of figuring out its patterns and was making progress after a few deaths, but then I happened to shoot out the leaf it was perched on (on the far right-hand side) from underneath it, and this caused it to (as I recall) hop down and then up onto another perch on the upper left of the screen. So I climbed up the unfurling leaves on the left hand side, but realized then that it had just stopped fighting. I dashed through the wall to stand right next to it, and it still just sat there, motionless, as I hit X a bunch of times and defeated it. I was a little bummed to not fight it at full strength :).
The other bump I had was that when I first finished the game, I heard the heartbeat (if I recall correctly?) and the screen dimmed to black, but that was it, it just stayed black. I exited full screen mode and I think then it was solid gray, but it never "came back." I exited the page and restarted the game, and this time collected 9 hearts and then finished (thinking perhaps it was a lesser ending for that reason?), and this time I got the credits. But I suspect the first experience with the end was unintentional.
I hope that's helpful, very fun game, thanks for making it!
Thank you for sharing this! Sorry to hear you hit these bugs - they are known to us. I’m not sure whether we will update the game, but if we do, they are in our bugs list to investigate!
For the ending, you are correct that it should not stay black! There are two possible ending scene sequences, depending on whether or not you collected vessels before abilities. Not sure which you saw, but neither should be black. I’m so glad you got to see one at least!
Thanks again for reporting back!
This was great!
I loved the general vibe that the music and visuals created.
The controls and animations felt really smooth, and there was great feedback for doing actions like jumping, attacking, swimming and teleporting.
The world design was also very nice, it really felt like the world was expanding but also like I was unravelling a big knot.
The only thing I think could've been edited were the controls, I would've preferred using WASD for movement, space bar to jump and M to teleport.
Other than this, this was a wonderful experience! I'm very interested to see if you take this further :).
Hey Jordan, thank you so much for playing and sharing your feedback! So glad you enjoyed the little world we created. We received a lot of feedback about the control scheme and really appreciate you sharing what would have felt better for you. It’s great data to have if we decide to move ahead with an update in the future. Cheers!
ive got 8 hearts , thought there were 7 ?! also got the dash ...
also ive done all the map in the bottom right of the map screen and the only way to progess is right at the start by going up , but i dont know how to or if its possible - is that the end of the game ?
enjoyed it so far
hey bigjus, thanks for your feedback! There is lots more game after that point. Try looking for another vertical path up (hug the rightmost wall) It’s a bit tricky but you can make it up there :)
your correct , there is a LOT more to it , dont know how i missed that entrance ! unfortunally i had to give up on the big cat boss as the controls are too awkward for me to pull of all the different things you need to do ... if dash was z and jump was spacebar (or the controls could be change to suit) it would be a lot easier to pull off the tricky moves needed...
good game though
hey vaprocaraleo! Thanks for playing. Do you mean you got stuck? If we can help, let us know :)
Oh no, I meant your game is basically unbeatable in this jam, it's amazing!
Oh! Thank you for the compliments! We are glad you enjoyed it :D
